RALS ORDERS INTERFACING

Hospitals, physician offices, offsite clinics, and labs are common places for an ‘orders’ or ‘solicited’ workflow regarding patient testing. Our Orders Interface allows RALS to send the ‘ordering physician’ in the outbound solicited message instead of the ‘physician of record’ as is used in a point-of-care (POC) outbound message. In this workflow scenario (Figure 1)...

1. A physician places an order for a patient test.
2. The order is sent to a nurse/operator and to RALS.
3. In response to the order, the test is performed on the patient.
4. The result is downloaded to RALS.
5. The result is matched and validated in RALS against the open orders.
6. A solicited result message is sent to the ordering physician.

RALS CAN MATCH RESULTS USING DEMOGRAPHICS OR ORDER NUMBER

As the order contains both patient demographics as well as the order number, RALS can use either to match a result to an open order. This allows device operators to continue using the patient’s ID, or to use the order number if they are in an area such as the lab.

SOLICITED AND UNSOLICITED

Additionally, one RALS System can support both the traditional POC workflow (unsolicited) with ADT as well as an Orders (solicited) workflow.

In this situation outbound results can be sent to the same, or different vendors, for example from the POC to the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and from Orders to the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

With Orders patient demographics are still available, as with ADT, and can be used with devices for positive patient identification if this feature is supported by the device.
